I am a freshwater ecologist focusing on conservation planning and landscape ecology. My current research is with the Great Lakes Connectivity project improving decision making for increasing access to tributary habitat for native migratory fishes in the Great Lakes basin. Many tributaries are blocked by dams and road crossings and connectivity for migratory fishes may improve through barrier removal or replacement, but these improvements also can increase available habitat for invasive species. My work involves informing a basin-wide optimization model for prioritizing barrier improvement projects to meet critical ecological goals at minimum costs through native and invasive species distribution modeling and refining cost estimates of dam removals and culvert replacements.
